The Hope 2011 Event is being rescheduled from its original date of October 22, 2011 to a date yet to be determined.

The host committee and the International Children’s Cancer Foundation Board have been working diligently to pull together a successful event and believe that postponement of the event is in order due to scheduling and venue issues. ICCF is working with its partners in Mexico to find another date in the very near future to put together an alternate time to host our Gala Hope event.

ICCF will not lose the momentum it has built on this event or its cause for children with cancer and will be announcing the new date and location shortly.

Hello! my name is Uriel Ethan Lopez Gil. I am originally from Phoenix, Arizona, but I currently live in Tijuana, Baja California Mexico. I was born on January 7, 2006, I am 4 years old. Recently I was diagnosed with a teratoid rhabdoid brain tumor in the frontal region.

My dad’s name is Israel López, and he works as a maintenance technician in a factory, my mom’s name is Lourdes Gil, she takes care of my brother Alan, who is six-years-old. My grandmother Mariana Aguirre, and my uncle Juan Luis also live with us.

Signs of Illness

When I was just one-year-old I started to get sick, I would vomit, my head would hurt a lot, and I would have seizures. So my parents took me to Hospital Maricopa, where they did several medical exams, and on August 12,2007 they diagnosed me with atypical teratoid rhabdoid brain tumor. On September 2, I started chemoteraphy, and on May 2010, I was discharged.

We moved to Tijuana in August 2010, and in October my parents took me to Fundación Castro Limón where we asked for help, and on October 7, my case was accepted.

Current Situation

Currently I am in a remission state, this means the active symptoms of my disease are at rest, and no new treatments, or interventions are necessary. Every three weeks I see Dr. Lozano for a check up.

Cost of Treatment

My treatment is valued at $78,469.20 pesos (about $6,359 in dollars) without taking into consideration a relapse or complications.

Hello! my name is Lizbeth Danae Calvo Garcia, I am from Tijuana, I was born on May 12, 1994, I am 16 years old. Recently I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

My dad’s name is Sergio, and he works in construction, my mom’s name is Rosario, and she takes care of my siblings and me while my dad works. I have a brother named Sergio Alberto who is 21, he studies accounting. My younger sister is Liliana Karime, she is 12, and is currently in junior high.

Signs of Illness

On July 2010, I discovered I had a small lump between my neck and shoulder, they took me to a private doctor, and he told me it was a swollen ganglia. He gave me some medicine so it would go away, but it didn’t.

Two months later I noticed it was starting to grow again but my parents could not take me to the doctor because they didn’t have money, so we had to wait for a whole month. On October 1, they took me to get an ultrasound, and x-rays, after this the doctor told my parents to apply for social security so that they could see me in the general hospital, but since it was taking too long we decided to get help elsewhere.

On October 8 I went to an appointment with Dr. Lozano at Fundacion Castro Limon. He made sure I got several studies done, and on October 12, I was accepted to the Fundacion, where I would receive support.

Current Situation

Currently I am in the second cycle of the maintenance stage of chemotherapy. I am doing very well, and having a good time with my other friends through this battle.

Cost of Treatment

My treatment is estimated to cost $194,221.10 pesos (about $15,739 in dollars) without considering complications that could occur.

Hello! my name is Carlos Rigoberto Barajas Montes, I am originally from Rosarito, Baja California. I was born on July 26, 2006, I am 4 years old and I was diagnosed with atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor.

My dad’s name is Nabor Nahúm, he is a driver, and my mom Elizabeth Noriega takes care of my siblings and me while my dad works. My sister’s name is Elizabeth and she is 17, and my brother is Nabor Abdiel, he is 6, and goes to elementary school.

Signs of Illness

On May 2009 after having constantly throwing up my parents took me with various doctors, one of them was Dr. José Luis Pisano, a neurosurgeon, who ordered I got a magnetic resonance, when he saw the results he noticed a tumor, he told us I would need a surgery.Since my parents didn’t have the resources to afford it, they decided to seek for help in the U.S. We went to St. Jude’s Hospital, where they gave us instruction on how to get to the Children’s Hospital in L.A. We went to the emergency room on June 4, 2009, and the next day I underwent surgery where they removed the tumor, but left dangerous residues. After the surgery they told my parents the tumor was cancerous.

They started giving me chemotherapy to destroy the residues of the tumor, after seven months they took another magnetic resonance, and then informed us I would need 30 weeks of radiation in the brain, and back, after a month they noticed I was free from the tumor.

On March 16, 2010 I started taking therapy to be able to walk, and eat again. After my treatment we requested help from Fundación Castro Limón for followup treatment. On July 13, 2010 my case was accepted.

Current Situation

Currently I am in the maintenance stage of chemotherapy receiving oral treatment at home.

Recently I was diagnosed with bronchopneumonia and I’m being treated in COP.

Cost of Treatment

My treatment is valued at $358,000.00 pesos ($29,000 in dollars) without complications.

Mi papá se llama Israel López y trabaja como técnico en mantenimiento en una maquiladora, mi mamá se llama Lourdes Gil ella cuida de mi hermano Alan el tiene 6 años y estudia en segundo de primaria, mi abuelita Mariana Aguirre vive con nosotros y mi tío Juan Luis, el tiene 28 años.

Antecedentes de la enfermedad
Cuando tenia 1 año de edad comencé a enfermarme, me daban dolores de cabeza muy fuertes, convulsiones y vómito, mis papas me llevaron al Hospital Maricopa, ahí me realizaron una serie de estudios médicos y el domingo 12 de Agosto del 2007 me diagnosticaron un tumor rabdoide teratiode atípico. El 02 de septiembre inicie la quimioterapia y en mayo del 2010 me dieron de alta.

En Agosto del 2010 nos mudamos a Tijuana y en octubre de este año mis papás me llevaron a la Fundación Castro Limón solicitando el apoyo para ser atendido y el día 07 de Octubre fue aceptado mi caso.

Situación Actual

Actualmente estoy en estado de remisión, esto quiere decir que mi enfermedad se encuentra en niveles bajos y no hay evidencia de recaídas. Cada 3 semanas me presento a consulta con el Dr. Lozano a consulta.

Mi papá se llama Sergio y trabaja en la construcción, mi mamá se llama Rosario y ella nos cuida mientras mi papá trabaja. Tengo dos hermanos Sergio Alberto de 21 años quien estudia contabilidad y también tengo un hermana menor, ella se llama Lliana Karime y tiene 12 años y estudia la secundaria.

Antecedentes de la enfermedad
En Julio del 2010 descubrí que tenia una bolita entre el cuello y el hombro, me llevaron con un médico particular y el me dijo que era un ganglio inflamado me dieron medicamento para que se me desinflamara pero no desapareció.

Dos meses después me di cuenta de que empezaba a crecer pero hasta el siguiente mes me volvieron a llevar al doctor ya que mis papas no tenían dinero para la consulta, el día 01 de Octubre me enviaron a hacer un ultrasonido y unas radiografías, al ver los resultados, el doctor sugirió a mis papás que tramitaran el seguro popular para que me revisaran en el Hospital General, pero mi consulta tardaba mucho y decidimos buscar apoyo en otras partes.

El 8 de Octubre asistí a consulta a la fundación con el Dr. Lozano y me envío hacer una serie de estudios y el día 12 de octubre fui aceptada para recibir apoyo de la fundación Castro Limón.

Situación Actual

Actualmente estoy en la etapa de mantenimiento, en el segundo ciclo de quimioterapia y voy muy bien, me divierto mucho con mis amiguitos y compañeros de batalla.

Mi papá se llama Nabor Nahúm el es chofer y mi mamá Elizabeth Noriega ella nos cuida mientras mi papá va a trabajar, tengo dos hermanos Elizabeth ella tiene 17 años y Nabor Abdiel de 6años quien estudia la primaria.

Antecedentes de la enfermedad
En mayo del 2009 al vomitar frecuentemente me llevaron con varios doctores y uno de ellos me refirió con el Dr. José Luis Pisano(neurocirujano) quien ordenó una resonancia magnética y al ver los resultados detectaron un tumor, nos comento que necesitaba una cirugía y como mis padres no tenían los recursos para la operación decidieron buscar ayuda en E.U.A. en el hospital St. Jude donde les dieron las instrucciones para llegar al Children´s Hospital de L.A., nos presentamos a urgencias el día 04 de junio del 2009 y el día 05 me realizaron una cirugía para extirpar el tumor dejando unos residuos peligrosos y después de la operación les dijeron a mis papas que era un tumor canceroso.

Iniciaron a darme quimioterapia para destruir los residuos del tumor, después 7 meses me realizaron una resonancia magnética y nos avisaron que necesitaba de 30 semanas de radiación en le celebro y en la espalda, después de un mes me dieron la noticia de que estaba libre de tumor.

El 16 de marzo del 2010 empecé a tomar terapia ocupacional para caminar, comer, ocupacional. Al terminar mi tratamiento en el hospital solicitamos apoyo a la fundación Castro Limón para seguimiento médico, el día 13 de julio del 2010 mi caso fue aceptado por la fundación.

Situación Actual

Actualmente me encuentro en etapa de mantenimiento recibiendo quimioterapia oral en mi casa.
Recientemente me diagnosticaron bronconeumonía y me están atendiendo en el COP.

Visit to COP Centro Oncologico Pediatrico de Baja California by the Board of Directors of ICCF – International Children’s Cancer Foundation with headquarters in San Diego CA. COP (translates to Oncologic Pediatric Center). This center was founded in Tijuana to treat poor children with cancer in memory of Juan Carlos Castro-Munguia and Irineo Limon-Vargas by Fundacion Castro-Limon.

Combined meeting with both Board Members of Fundacion Castro Limon in Tijuana and International Children’s Cancer Foundation in San Diego.

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL MURAL EN COP TIJUANA

La mujer del vestido amarillo llega volando a entregarle un mundo -que simboliza la salud- a un niño. Es mujer ya que la madre es un ser muy importante y así como es capaz de darle la vida también le ofrece la salud. En los extremos se aprecian dos pequeños en peces voladores y en la parte central, otros niños leyendo. Esto proyecta además de su hermosa imaginación, los derechos de los niños a jugar y a la educación. Las palomas significan los donadores y las flores que llevan en sus picos o ya han arrojado, son los donativos. El avión, el mar, las nubes y el cielo azul son parte del mensaje de libertad y esperanza que se respira en el COP.

COMENTARIOS DEL AUTOR GERMAN RUBIO SIERRA

“El arte de la pintura ha sido una gran influencia en mi vida desde pequeño, el cual despertó mi imaginación, mis fantasías en el cual he podido plasmar sobre un lienzo o representado en unos murales sueños surrealistas personales, así como de otras personas. Gracias al Arte eso me ha dejado una satisfacción de que mi pintura proporcione alegría a los niños y adultos donde los colores y formas de mis obras generen interés en querer aprender a pintar, cantar, bailar, o cualquier acción que este relacionada con el arte, por lo cual la sociedad debido a un atareado estilo de vida no se da el tiempo de hacerlo y suelen el pensar que esto es un don nato.
Mi trabajo como pintor me ha acercado a personas que me han enseñado el valor de dar, el cual ha sido el causante de que yo reflexione como ser humano y descubrir dentro de mi, la necesidad de dar algo a cambio, y lo mejor que puedo hacer es mi pintura.

Busco la oportunidad de poder ofrecer a la Fundación Castro Limón y su Centro Operativo Oncologico COP un mural donado, ya que la institución tiene como principio el ayudar a niños que son la alegría y el motor para que todo ser humano siga pensando y luchando por un mejor mundo.”
